Thinking of Buying Homeowners Insurance in Illinois?

For over 43 years, agents at The David Agency insurance, Inc have been helping Elmhurst and Chicagoland homeowners protect their homes and families.  Along the way we've learned a few things about what to look for in a Homeowner Insurance Policy and how to shop for the best rates and coverage.  Of course we always recommend that you sit-down with a licensed agent (Clicking here is a great start) and go over your unique situation so that you get the best coverage available.  If you are shopping for homeowners coverage, remember the following:

  1.  Maybe buying a pizza from a pitchman is ok, but that won't work with your Homeowners Insurance.  Don't buy insurance based on an endorsement by a football player or a famous person.  Insurance is expensive and you need to find the best policy at the best price for your situation.
  2. Only buy a Homeowners Insurance policy from a company that is licensed in Illinois.  Licensed companies are required to participate in the the Illinois Insurance Guaranty Fund which protects the policy holder in case the company becomes insolvent.  The state of Illinois provides a handy reference guide for homeowners who want to learn more about financial ratings and finding a reputable company.
  3. Know what you are buying; make sure that you understand the language in the homeowners policy before you buy.  Don't accept calculations or coverage explanations if you don't understand.  We would be remiss if we did not remind you that the agents at The David Agency are great at explaining insurance terms to our clients.  We take great pride in educating our customers so that they understand all the terms in a policy so that they are fully aware of what they are buying.  
  4. Fill out the application truthfully and completely.  You must give correct and true answers when applying for insurance.  If you omit something or purposefully misrepresent yourself, the insurance company will void the policy and you will be left uncovered.
