If you have homeowner’s insurance, then you are covered for any damage done to your property as well as your legal responsibility for injuries and property damage that you or others cause to other people. You will want an insurance policy that is extensive enough to help mend and replace or rebuild your home as it once was if anything devastating should happen. The sad truth however, is that not all insurance policies are made equally and they do not all provide proper coverage.
Basic homeowners’ insurance includes coverage for the following:
- Personal belongings – covers clothes, jewelry, antiques, furniture and other personal items that are stolen or destroyed by an insured disaster
- Liability protection – covers you and your household against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage
- Structure of your home – pays to repair or renovate your home if it is damaged or destroyed by any disaster listed in your policy
- Additional living expenses – covers meal costs, hotel costs and other related expenditures in the event you are temporarily unable to live in your home
